Very timely article, thank you. What helped for me, like the Eunuch who was helped by Phillip to understand the Scriptures, was that a former pastor offered a 2-year Crossways International study of the Old & New Testament. Perfect about Unit 1 was that it told the student exactly what God's Plan was for Creation at the beginning. That way you went through the whole study knowing what His intentions were and then seeing how it was all "put together." Before this Bible Study, I knew nothing really about the Bible since I've since learned that people that are baptized into the LCMS are kind of left on their own. You go to church, go to Sunday School, do the Liturgy, take Communion, Confirmation seems to be the last time people go intensively into the "basics" and then...rinse and repeat. If you don't do a Bible Study (a real one, not the ones that tell how to be a better Mom by reading the book of Esther!) then you're just like...coasting. That's how my family was. :I I was always amazed that none of our former Pastors told us to read Martin Luther's commentaries/etc OR even offered that as a Bible Study! One day I just said, "Hey, why can't we read Luther?" and bought a book. Game changer! Thank you, Pastor, for trying to wake-up people. The reason why our Pastor offered Crossways is because he did a congregational survey and he said that 25% did not believe in Satan. !!! Okay. :D
Several years ago my wife and I noticed a YouTube with you speaking. We recognized you from Digital Catacombs in Pagoosa Springs, so we watched. We started the Hoerner reading plan and used it for two years. It was a blessing in our lives. And we continued on customized plans grouping the synoptic gospels and Luke together; reading all of John’s writings together; Books of Moses and some other groupings of books we wanted read more often, continuing on 10 chapters a day. Those 10 chapters daily are such a blessing and I understand the Bible and that all of it is about Jesus so much better now!! Thank you!!!
